Why Contribute To Central Delaware Habitat For Humanity?

The contribution you make, financially or by volunteering your time, is used to help meet CDHFH goal of providing affordable housing. CDHFH works hard to keep administrative costs to an absolute minimum. We are a 100% volunteer organization with no paid staff.

Since CDHFH only builds in Kent County, dollars spent on construction go directly back into the local economy. If every resident in Kent County gave $5, we would have enough funding for at least 9 houses! No donation is too small, so get involved today and tell us where you want Your donation to go now!

In addition to monetary donations, we also accept material donations in the form of tools, lumber, and supplies for our current home build! These needs are sometimes very specific, so if you wish to donate items such as a door or window for our build site, please contact us today for more information! In the near future we will have a page dedicated to letting you know what types of items we are in need of! For now, consider these basic comparisons (all of which are equally important):

• $5 Buys us - a tape measure or chalk line
• $10 Buys us - a hammer or rolls of painters tape
• $20 Buys us - 3 circular saw blades for cutting
• $50 Buys us - enough nails to shingle a whole roof
• $100 Buys us - a door, window, for the home

It is very difficult to describe with words the impact Habitat has on individuals that have benefited from the housing we help provide. We have been very fortunate to work with many of our partner families by being a part of the Family Support Committee. Owning your own home is part of the American dream that is unattainable for some people. Habitat provides a unique opportunity for those individuals that have the desire and proper work ethic, but who are not able, financially, to meet closing costs or income requirements to buy their own home. Home ownership builds pride in oneself and filters into every aspect of a person’s life. We think it is also important to note that Habitat does not give housing to people. Every dollar that is spent is included in the mortgage that Habitat holds. Habitat understands the difference between a hand-out and a hand-up.
